The Chair project

Earlier this summer I heard about the new ReStore in Victoria and their call to artists to paint a chair for their grand opening fundraiser.  I've painted lots of chairs and have even used more than one colour but this was a first for me.  I got the chair and gessoed it and then spent several afternoons working out the colours I wanted to incorporate, finally resting with blues, greens and yellows, mostly muted.  It was great fun painting each edge of the legs and back rails a different colour but it took a while (and a few attempts) before I came up with what I wanted for the seat.

Eventually I settled on a nine-patch quilt image using some of the same colours. I wanted my chair to be soft enough to suit many types of rooms.

ReStore will be auctioning off 25 chairs at their opening on August 15 from 11:00 to 1:00 at 3311H Oak Street.. Funds raised will be going to their Habitat for Humanity projects in Victoria. Everyone is welcome to attend.
